Submucosal dissection technique for the management of malignant and premalignant lesions of the vocal folds
Abstract
Most vocal pathologies can be correlated to a change in the nature of the tissue or abnormal functional use of the laryngeal tissues. When laryngeal tissues are diseased, treatment should be directed to remove diseased tissue while restoring healthy tissue to normal function. Surgical techniques designed to address endolaryngeal pathologies must function to extirpate diseased mucosa while concurrently minimizing trauma to the normal tissues. Using established principles of hydrodissection microscopic laryngoscopy, we describe a technique that facilitates precise excision while allowing healthy tissues to recover with minimal scarring.
