Abstract 

Standard open supraglottic laryngectomy provides a means to treat supraglottic carcinoma while maintaining physiologic speech and swallowing without the need for a permanent tracheostoma. The oncologic principles, techniques for resection and reconstruction and postoperative management issues are discussed.
